Hibernation House Weekend

Hibernation House Weekend December 19th and 20th 2020

The Hibernation House weekend is a weekend where all of our volunteer ski instructors meet for a fun and informative weekend on the slopes. We rent out the whole hibernation house most years and stay up on the mountain. This is the weekend we get most of our mandatory instruction from the Ski Whitefish Training Instructors.

Training starts Saturday morning usually around 9AM. We sit down with ski patrol and learn all the new safety instructions and things to look out for on the mountain. Then the Leadership of the mountain will brief our instructors on the new additions to the mountain as well as future plans for the mountain and other pertinent info. We will then break off for a lunch. After lunch we have 3 hours of on the snow training that focuses on teaching our instructors the proper technique to teach children how to ski. During this period, they will also work on your skiing to help make you a better skier.

After that ends we all retire back to the hibernation house for a pizza dinner for the whole family. There is a hot tub for the kids to play in and after dinner the adults will usually play card games and mingle. This makes for a great way to meet new people and catch up on all the things that happened all summer with your old friends.
Sunday morning is a free ski period. You can get up as early as you would like for an all included full trimmings breakfast with French toast, bacon, sausage, all the fruits and muffins you can think of and plenty more to drink. Then it’s off to the snow to enjoy a fantastic morning of skiing with your family.

After lunch we meet for another 3-hour block of skiing with the instructors again.

The cost for the weekend is usually $65 but will be $20 per room for volunteers in 2020. That includes your night in the Hibernation House, the pizza dinner Saturday night, and breakfast Sunday morning. All volunteers are provided with ski passes for both days. The wonderful instruction you receive on the snow is also paid for by the club. The only thing not included is the lunches each day.

Mandatory Ski Clinic for all volunteer instructors.  All instructors need to be up-to-date with all of the Whitefish Mountain requirements.  We have rooms reserved at a discount at the Hibernation House.  If you wish to stay on the mountain overnight, you can pay for your $20 room during your family registration.
