50th Anniversary Celebration:
Join us on January 9, 2010 at the mountain for the KSC 50th Anniversary Celebration. KSC is sponsoring free night’s skiing from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. for the entire valley. Bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the Flathead Food Bank. We hope to see you there. Commemorative T-Shirts will be available throughout the ski season for $10.00 each.
Times & Places:
Kalispell Ski Club classes begin Saturday, January 16, 2010 and end March 20, 2010. We will not teach on February 13, 2010, President’s Weekend. Plan to have your children at class by 9:15 a.m. and pick them up at 11:30 a.m.
Classes begin and end at the Base Lodge at the bottom of Chair 6. Drive up Big Mtn Rd. and turn right on Glades Drive and proceed to the lower parking areas. Please note, there is no longer drop off in front of the Base Lodge. There is a drop off area just as you enter the lower parking lot. You may drop your children off in this area or park your vehicle in one of the designated parking areas and walk your children to their destination.
|
Parents must be at the bottom of Chair 6 to pick children up at 11:30 a.m. Please do not leave volunteer instructors to wait on your arrival. They have to pick up their own children.
Class Assignments:
Class assignments are found on the following pages.Given enough snow on Chair Six, each class will have a numbered sign at their starting place which corresponds to the number by your child's name on the following pages. If your child's name is not on the list, give us a call or plan to arrive a few minutes early the first day and we will make class assignments at that time.
Important Note on Class Assignments: Parents may NOT reassign their children to a higher/lower level class without talking to their current instructor or the KSC Learn to Ski Director. Attendance is taken each class and children will be placed in their assigned classes unless otherwise recommended by an instructor.
All Classes will meet along the tree line approximately 150 feet north of the Base Lodge. Class numbers will be posted on banners. Look for the Kalispell Ski Club Signs.

Equipment:
All children must have all of their ski equipment with them at the beginning of class at 9:30. The Base Lodge has season rentals for $145. This price is for the entire ski season, so use them as much as you want. Equipment is laid out and ready to go at the Base Lodge each Saturday. This is a nice way to go so you won’t have to haul equipment back and forth.
The Sportsman Ski Haus has kid’s packages for sale. Packages can be purchased and traded in with growth. .
Important: If you rent from the Base Lodge, please arrive early so that your child can be equipped and at class before 9:30 a.m. Make rental arrangements in advance of the first lesson day. It is impossible to do rental fitting on the day of lessons and make it to class on time.
Tickets:
Note: Chair 6 is no longer a free lift. Unless your child is a first time skier they must have a pass or ticket every lesson.
|
|
Students who have NO skiing experience, classes 1, 2, 3 and 6, will not need to purchase tickets on January 16th. However, they may need a ticket after the first week of lessons. Please check with your child’s instructor to ask if they require a ticket for the next lesson. Tots six and under can get a season pass for free. Children without the proper tickets will be asked to wait in the Base Lodge during lesson times. Tickets can be purchased at the Base Lodge.
Passes & Frequent Skier Cards must be picked up before the first class day. Otherwise kids end up missing their classes. Kalispell Ski Club does not provide ski tickets or passes.
Weather:
Weather changes constantly on the Mountain. Please layer clothing on your child and prepare them for extremes. KIDS NEED GOOD QUALITY SOCKS, GLOVES, GOGGLES & WARM HEAD GEAR. Kalispell Ski Club strongly recommends (but does not require) helmets. Skiing is a winter sport, please be prepared. Cold kids are not going to have fun. Kids without appropriate clothing will be asked to wait in the Base Lodge during lessons.
Extreme Weather: Often we cannot determine weather extremes until we arrive on the mountain to check first hand. We reserve the right to cancel classes at any time to insure child safety.
Repairs and Adjustments:
Instructors will not make binding adjustments. The Base Lodge Ski Shop mayadjust bindings if they are not too busy.
|
Safety:
If your child has faulty equipment, is too cold for safety or has a similar problem, the instructor may have him/her wait for you in the Base Lodge. Between 9:30 & 11:30 a.m. a KSC Learn to Ski helper will usually be available.
We ask that parents of young children plan to be in the Base Lodge area to handle normal childhood trials and traumas. We ask that parents of older children be on the mountain or available by phone should an emergency arise.
Medical Cards: These will be available the first day of class. Please fill these out for your children and place them in each child’s ski parka before their first lesson.
Radio Protocol: If your child has an FRS Radio, our instructors use channels 5 and sub channel 38. This is a great safety device for getting kids to lost classes and for emergency communication. Please do not use channel 5 or 5-38 during classes.
Questions & Answers:
Many questions may be addressed on our web site at www.kalispellskiclub.com. This is a fun and information rich source.Your child may be photographed with his/her class. These photos may appear on the web site. If you prefer your child’s photo not be displayed, please let us know.
If your child is not listed in a class, or you suspect that they are in the same class as last year, please call ASAP. We will make sure they get in the correct class.

Instructor Information:
Instructor tickets will be issued in the cafeteria of the Base Lodge between 9:00 & 9:15 a.m. Please be prepared to arrive at your class location by 9:15 a.m.
Instructors must sign in with Don and Heidi even if you have a pass. We have no other way to know if each class has the necessary instructors.
Class Leaders are responsible for picking up and returning class packets each week and for handing out maps, class lists, emergency information, name tags, etc.
Instructorsare responsible for reassigning kids to upper or lower classes. Please do this in writing on the assignment cards in your packets so we can compute new lists by the following week. We will not remember verbal changes.
Instructors, please explain changes to the children and parents since they may believe you are the only teacher for them.
Please let Don and Heidi know a week in advance if you are going to miss a weekend, so we have appropriate time to assign a substitute for your class.
All floaters should try to check with us at 9:15 a.m. each Saturday to see if unexpected vacancies need to be filled. We will try our best to assign every available instructor to a class. We love volunteers! See you on the mountain!
